Fred Jackson discusses his role and LeSean McCoy
Buffalo Bills’ running back Fred Jackson appeared on The Howard Simon Show on WGR Buffalo Tuesday morning. There are many interesting quotes and notes coming out of the interview.
First, Fred Jackson said the Bills plan on giving running back LeSean McCoy over 300 carries this season and he is ready to do whatever is asked of him: “I don’t know exactly what my role is going to be,” the ninth-year veteran told WGR. “They say that they want Shady to get 300-plus carries next year. So that’s a guy you’re feeding the ball all the time. So I’ll be ready when my number is called… I just want to win football games and I’ll do whatever I can to help do that and when my number is called I’ll be ready to go.”
Jackson had a sense that change was coming and that CJ Spiller probably was not coming back in 2015: “I’ve been here with Marshawn Lynch, another tremendous running back. CJ Spiller, an explosive guy in himself. So, for me, it was something I expected to happen. I expected them to cover their bases and bring in another guy, and it was Shady. So, for me it’s just about taking advantage of the opportunities I’m going to get.”
Jackson has always been one of the most optimistic players on the Bills roster since he’s come to Buffalo, but this year he thinks it is different: “We’ve made lot of moves. There have been some moves that I think this team is preparing to win now. (The front office) is doing everything they can to cover all their bases to win now. We’re trying to win football games now and you can see that’s very evident. The Pegulas are doing everything they can to give us the pieces. (Bills GM) Doug Whaley’s been extremely diligent in everything he’s trying to do to give us the pieces to win right now. We’re excited about it. I’m excited about it. In my ten years here, I haven’t seen this much excitement in an offseason. I’m amped about it and ready to go and roll into next season.”
