Could your favorite Buffalo Bills player be on the chopping block?
Buffalo Low Down has an article about the Bills’ veterans who could be cut. There are a lot of things to consider right now for the team; rookies who might step-up, all the free agency signings and the salary cap for 2016.
The most intriguing are the running backs. LeSean McCoy is a lock. He is the go to guy and no one but Fred Jackson appears to question this fact. Running back Karlos Williams was drafted and it’s unlikely he gets cut, but might spend most of his time on special teams. Although the Bills’ management has said numerous times that Fred Jackson wasn’t going to be released after the McCoy trade–he is the oldest running back in the NFL and it would not be surprising to see him and/or Bryce Brown released in training camp if Williams proves his worth beyond returning kicks. Dixon could also be on the bubble if Williams stands out–as their styles are very similar.
Next, are the number of cornerbacks and the addition of Ronald Darby. The question will be who starts opposite of Stephon Gilmore? Darby, Corey Graham or Leodis McKelvin? All three are sure to make the team but that will probably leave Ron Brooks, Nickell Robey, and Ross Cockrell on the bubble.
Just as stacked as the Bills are with running backs and cornerbacks, the Bills might be stacked with too much talent at the wide receiver position. Even with that said the Bills drafted a huge receiver in Dezmin Lewis in the 7th round. There is no question that Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin and Robert Woods are starters in 2015. But some of the other receivers will likely be cut. The most likely to be on the bubble will be Dezmin Lewis if he doesn’t prove himself, Marquise Goodwin has had plently of time to prove himself, and Chris Hogan.
Offensive line has been questionable for years and it doesn’t appear that 2015 will be any different, but there are some new additions that could push some starters and backups off the team. John Miller was drafted will certainly make the team. Who else are locks for the 2015 roster? Probably two guys, Eric Wood, Kraig Urbik and Richie Incognito. Chris Williams has a big salary that is probably going to weigh heavy on whether he stays or goes. Cyril Richardson might have a fresh start under the Ryan regime but he could find himself waived if he goes through another training camp and doesn’t step up.
